2001-11-06 - 2:29 a.m. I joined my buddy Den's portal and his brother Jr.'s e-group and had occasion to scan in a picture of me. For those of you who've been wondering what the hell I look like, here it is. ![]() Anyway, I sent Jr. some profile info for Groophug and had to come up with 10 bands and 10 albums I like. So difficult, I had to take a nap. Looking at everyone else's choices, I feel the need to explain myself somehow. I didn't want to be a sheep and mention the same old bands everyone else likes. If you go to the site you'll see a lot of Radiohead, Blur, and Modest Mouse, bands I like but am not really well-versed on. So I picked all these bands and albums based on a) how much I think I like them and b) how little I think everyone else I admire likes them. If I had more than one album I want to mention for a group or singer, I chose to list them as a band. Thus if I only had one album I wanted to mention, I didn't mention them in the band list. Here's what I came up with: 10 Bands (and at least 2 of my favorite albums for each): Incubus (Make Yourself, Morning View) Sarah McLachlan (Surfacing, Mirrorball) Cake (Prolonging the Magic, Comfort Eagle) Garbage (Garbage, Version 2.0) Belle & Sebastian (Fold Your Hands, Child, You Walk Like a Peasant; Legal Man) The Corrs (Talk on Corners, In Blue) Cibo Matto (SuperRelax, Viva La Woman) Dubstar (Disgraceful, Goodbye) Sheryl Crow (Tuesday Night Music Club, Sheryl Crow) Shawn Colvin (A Few Small Repairs, Whole New You) 10 Albums (and some explanations): Equally Cursed & Blessed - Catatonia Dummy - Portishead No Angel - Dido Invincible Sampler - k.d. lang Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon Music from Pete & Pete - Polaris Halfway Down the Sky - Splender Magnolia - Movie Soundtrack - Aimee Mann Atomic Bomb - Rivermaya After the Party - Push Stars I also had to come up with a favorite place in L.A. This perhaps was the toughest of all the questions, since I don't really hang out in L.A. I'm a Glendale girl, it's a self-sufficient city but definitely not the hippest place around. So I thought of all the places I've ever actually been in L.A. and came up with the Dept. of Water & Power cafeteria. I could spend hours at the buffet. It's like Vegas, without the long drive. I'd say Vegas without the gambling and drinking, but since I was underage when we went to Vegas, it was never about gambling and drinking to me anyway. As long as they don't serve goat. ![]()
